Exposição Brilha Rio
Illuminated by 20th century commercial signage.
70 pieces that tell part of the history of the city with signs that once decorated urban facades in Lisbon. These glass or plastic signs, neon signs, doors, light boxes, and metal letters, were removed from facades after the closure of the establishment, or when the signs were replaced. Most of these objects would have been destroyed if they had not been rescued by this project.
Brilha Rio, which is also the name on one of the signs, has been organised according to trades, e.g. hairdressers, shoe shops, outfitters, restaurants, car showrooms, opticians, and hotels, in Lisbon, Porto, Almada, Carcavelos, Moscavide, Silves and Vila Franca de Xira. Names and surnames such as Eleonora, Joaquim, Telma, Nogueira, Costa, Sequeira, or composite names, such as Vamar or Jelu, are also exhibited.
